Australian Wildlife in Focus: Our Native Species Are in Danger and at Risk of Extinction

Australia is a country of incredible diversity, with a wide range of habitats and ecosystems supporting an incredible array of wildlife. From the majestic kangaroo to the tiny but mighty echidna, our native species are a source of wonder.

Unfortunately, many of these species are facing a crisis, with habitat loss and other threats putting them at risk of extinction. From the iconic koala to the Tasmanian devil, species are struggling to survive in the face of habitat loss, disease and other pressures. Endangered species are often the first to suffer in a changing world: the canary in the coal mine, a warning of the damage being done to the natural world.
